We will leave from Como, but it will also be possible to start from a different point, we will start by skirting the western side, where we can admire the beautiful villas and gardens that overlook the lake shores. We will pass by these splendid mansions starting from VILLA SAPORITI,built at the lakeside by the Como aristocracy.
We will then find on our left the neoclassical VILLA OLMO, which still hosts popular exhibitions and events. Before arriving at the port of CERNOBBIO, we will admire the VILLA DEL GRUMELLO, which at the time hosted such prominent personalities as Alessandro Volta and Ugo Foscolo. Continuing to CERNOBBIO we will see two of the best-known villas on the lake: VILLA ERBA, built in 1900 and often used for film sets, and the GRAND HOTEL VILLA D’ESTE one of the most beautiful 5-star hotels in the world.
Passed VILLA D’ESTE, we will find VILLA PIZZO with its large park often used for weddings and, a little further on in MOLTRASIO, here comes VILLA FONTANELLE, the historic residence of Versace. Once we have crossed the lake, we will head towards TORNO where we find the ultra-modern HOTEL “IL SERENO “LUXORY 5 stelle and VILLA TAVERNAunmistakable thanks to its C-shaped structure open to the lake. Further on, , we will find VILLA ROCCABRUNA which, since 2010, has become the 5-star MANDARIN ORIENTAL hotel, and is distinguished by its 26-thousand-square-meter park, in which eight other newly built villas stand.
Arrived at BLEVIO, we find VILLA TROUBETZKOY clearly distinguishable both by its striking appearance inspired by the architecture of Nordic chalets and by the presence of an outdoor elevator. Villa Troubetzkoy was built in the mid-19th century and was named after Prince Alexander Troubetzkoy.
The 2-hour tour continues the route started with the 1-hour tour and we will arrive at LAGLIO, where we will find VILLA OLEANDRA, (George Clooney's summer residence). We will then cross the lake to head towards NESSO, where we will visit its ORRIDO, a river that descends to the lake under an ancient medieval bridge also known as "LA CIVERA." We will then sail to TORNO where we will find the evocative VILLA PLINIANA which, surrounded only by rocks and vegetation, with its sheer bulk stands out against the water. In the summer time this is undoubtedly the best place to take a dip and enjoy the atmosphere.
This tour continues the journey begun with the 2-hour tour and we will arriveat ISOLA COMACINA, a strip of land 600 meters long, 200 wide and with a perimeter of 2 km. Here, every year, on the Sunday closest to June 24, the traditional feast of S.GIOVANNItakes place, with a procession of boats and the traditional fireworks display on the lake. We will then cross the waters in front of us at low speed and we will find VILLA IL BALBIANO, a 15th-century building, and VILLA LA CASSINELLA, a beautiful residence also famous for its privacy, since the villa is reachable only by water, appear on our left. FORBES magazine, listed it among the eleven most beautiful vacation villas in the world.
Continuing up the promontory we will arrive at one of the most iconic villas on Lake Como: VILLA DEL BALBIANELLOSeveral international films have been filmed here, including Star Wars and Casino Royale starring the world's most famous secret agent, 007. The last private owner of the Villa was Count GUIDO MONZINO a great explorer known for organizing the first Italian expedition that climbed Everest in 1973.
